My Review of the INSANITY Workout DVD Program

Lots of exercise DVDs have been made and sold in the past few years. There were some which gave good results, few which gave astounding results and a lot which did not help at all. I am a very big fan of home exercise and when I read that Beachbody’s Insanity Workout DVD is one of the best today, I decided to try it. Insanity is a 2-month workout program which promises to transform your body. INSANITY is definitely the most difficult fitness program ever on DVD and what I like most about it is that I can do it right in the comfort of my own home. There is no need to buy expensive equipments or get gym memberships.

Initial Thoughts

Shaun T, the guy behind Hip Hop Abs, is the instructor for Insanity. Shaun T happens to be a great instructor and just looking at his body can give you enough motivation to work out and get in shape. The music also helps keep you going as the exercise picks up pace and intensity. Insanity is not a dance-based workout, unlike Shaun T’s earlier releases. Insanity uses Max Interval Training or maximum intensity exercise with short intervals of intensity and short intervals of rest.  This promotes faster increase and it does what it says it will. All I needed to get fit was an area in front of my television which was big enough for me to move around in.

My First Month using INSANITY

During my first month of workout, I was really out of shape. The workouts were difficult but I was able to cope. I decided that I wanted to get in shape and I was gonna stick to it no matter what happens. The workouts were limited to 40 minutes at a time so it was still something I could definitely do. What I found was it’s very hard to rest and recover than the suggested 30 seconds. I thought the people on the DVD were like machines, only taking 30-second rests. One thing I learned is that you need to recover before starting back again or else you will burn out easily.

Second Month using INSANITY

Month 2 was the hardest month of my life. It was like torture but I really felt very good at the end of the month. I felt that I was in the best shape of my life. I felt sore most of the time but in the end all my sacrifices and hard work paid off. I may not have as good a body as Shaun T himself, but I look a lot better than when I started the program. One thing I wish I was told though is to always have a sports drink handy to hydrate myself with. Most of the time I drank water and it gave me no additional energy at all.

Final Thoughts on Insanity Workout Program

The exercise DVDs did what it said it would, it pushed me to my limits. The workouts are constantly challenging and you can expect to alternate between aerobic and anaerobic intervals. Suffice it to say that INSANITY is not a workout for everybody. It is reserved only for people who are ready to take their bodies to the best physical condition possible. It is like having a drill sergeant and a bootcamp in your own home. If you are lazy and only exercise once every two weeks, this is not the right purchase for you.

One Comment

  1. I’m a 50 year old man who has been lifting weights for a long time but I just seem to have a problem with getting rid of some of my body fats. I have been hearing rave reviews about Insanity 90-day workout so I decided to try it. I can truly say that Insanity works just as long as you stick to the workout and diet plan.

What I learned is that you need not worry about keeping up with the people on the video. It is not a contest. All you need is to do your best at your pace and I am stressing the word BEST. I do not mean a slipshod job of working out. I have to warn you that the workout is never easy. As your body gets conditioned, your workouts get more intense and it demands more from you as you progress. Just remember to take the Fit Test because it is accurate. You will see improvements if there are any and it will keep you motivated. Again, Insanity is not as easy as other home workout videos out there. It gave me muscle pains the first time I tried it but I can tell you that with the results I got, I do not have any regrets and I think I will never find a better home workout DVD than Insanity.
