The Body Solid EXM3000LPS Double Stack Home Gym is one of the best home gyms Body Solid offer, only the EXM4000S and the DGYM offer more in terms of features. However, available at more than half the cost of the EXM4000S (MSRP $8,200.00), does the EXM3000LPS offer better value for money? Find out in my Body Solid EXM3000LPS review below.

The Home Gym Critic’s EXM3000LPS Review

First off, the MSRP (Manufacturer’s suggested retail price) is often way way above what you see from distributors. In this case, the EXM 3000LPS has an MSRP of $4,865.00 however, if you have a look around online you’d find straight away prices ranging from $2500+. A big saving! Back to the review…

As with all Body Solid home gyms, you’re going to get a quality well made piece of equipment. It’s no different with the 1500S, it’s a membership gym quality machine.

Warranty Info

  • Lifetime on the frame, welds, plates, and guide rods
  • 2 years on pulleys, bushing, bearings, and hardware
  • 1 year on cables, upholstery, grips, and all other components

Features

The EXM1500S comes with a double weight stack, which allows for 2 people to use the weight stations simultaneously. You can also opt for the optional leg raise attachment too, which would allow for 3 people to workout simultaneously!

Multi-Press Station: The adjustable arms provide a combination of chest press, incline press, shoulder press, and also chest supported rows. Perfect for an all round upper chest, shoulder, and mid back workout.

Leg Press/Calf Press Station: Adjustable press plate for both leg and calf development. The weight stack can be increased to 420 pound using the leg press stations’ 2:1 weight ratio.

Perfect Pec Station: With dual overhead cams, the arms have 6 variable starting positions, which provide the ability to fine tune starting and finishing positions in the movement, as well as adequate stretching of the muscles. It’s a two function station that provides a good workout to both the outer pecs, and the rear deltoid muscles.

Lat Pulldown/High Pulley Station: This station works the back, the shoulders, and the arms. Its hold down rollers are built to fit any size without adjustment, ensuring an easy transition between stations.

Ab Crunch/Mid Pulley Station: Work your abs and obliques in isolation, as well as your triceps. Its unique design provides a high degree of comfort on the triceps extensions.

Seated Row/Low Pulley Station: This area caters for those who want to build a bigger back. The seated row movement is ideal for building out the middle area of the back as well as those hard to reach lower lats. The station can be easily adjusted to provide accurate resistance for cable curls, tricep extensions, upright rows, shrugs, and more.

Dual Stack: The station comes with two separate 210 pound weight stacks, allowing 2 people to workout simultaneously.

DuraFirm Pads: High quality DuraFirm padding is designed to offer high quality comfort as well as long standing durability.

Weight Stack Shrouds: Full length solid steel shrouds surround each weight stack, adding to both the safety of the system and the appearance.

Pros of the Body Solid EXM3000LPS Home Gym

  1. The overriding pro of the EXM3000LPS is the sheer quality of the manufacturing. You can really tell the gym is high end, with solid welds, sturdy frame, comfortable and highly durable padding, and really neat finishes and extras, such as safety shrouds on the weight plates, one size fits all rollers, and adjustable functions.
  2. The 3000LPS comes with lifetime warranty on the frame, welds, plates, and guide rods. As well as 2 years on parts and 1 year on cables, bearings, and other components. You’d be hard pressed (no pun intended!) to find a better warranty offered for any of the high end gyms than the ones offered by Body Solid.
  3. It’s versatility and functions allow for 2 people to workout simultaneously, with an additional person if you buy the optional knee raise attachment.
  4. For its function, you would expect this home gym to be a lot larger in dimension. If you have a reasonable amount of room for the EXM3000LPS then you should have no problems fitting it in your home and working around it.
  5. The weight stacks are 210 pounds each, providing more than enough resistance for your upper body workouts, and with the 2:1 ratio on the leg press station, a total of 420 pound resistance on leg press. Perfect for those who want to tone up, or those that want to put on mass.

Cons of the Body Solid EXM3000LPS Home Gym

  1. From what I’ve seen from my research, the complaint I see most often is the fact the assembly is so difficult. If you’re not a DIY kind of person then this could get really tricky. The manual that comes with the gym is also rather difficult to follow too, probably down to the many moving parts and pulleys the gym has. Some people are saying it took them 10 hours to set up, others are saying 4-6, so I suppose it all depends on your experience with these kinds of projects.

Conclusion

Taking into consideration that the EXM3000LPS is towards the high end of Body Solid Home Gyms, I have to say it certainly meets my expectations. It really does offer everything you could need from a home gym. Considering other gyms that are out there, the price is very competitive too. $2600 from Amazon.com is the best price I’ve found so far, but if you shop around or even get the gym second hand, I’m sure you’re going to save a lot more. Just remember, you may not be entitled to claim on the warranty of anything breaks, so check these things out before you buy. If you buy from Amazon, the gym is supplied by Body Solid, so you get the same warranty as you do if you were to buy directly from Body Solid.

For the functionality, price, and quality of the machine, I would have to say that the Body Solid EXM3000LPS Double Stack Home Gym may well be the best gym I’ve reviewed yet! I really can’t fault it.

One Comment

  1. I owned this model GYM for 15 years, I think that the reviewers comments are right on!

When I bought mine I added the multi-hip flexor station MH30, which is about as professional a station as you could get and still be an attached part of such a gym machine. I wish for everyone considering the option to buy this machine that that hip flexor machine was still available. I have the verticals knee raise/dip station as a separate free standing piece, I have heard that the one that comes as an attached option is not that great… and to skip on it. The leg press is fabulous, love it! The seated chest press shoulder press is so much more versatile than I realized at first, so much can be done with it.
After using the machine for awhile I discovered that the hip flexor machine was also good for an additional ‘Triceps’
    station!

The machine feels heavy and well built and it is. It is important to keep it well adjusted and well lubricated, I use WD-40 on all moving parts, and for keeping the upholstery clean and pliable. Also, to keep your machine nice DON’T bang the parts around and don’t casually toss other weights and pieces of equipment on it or on it’s upholstered seats. I also bought the added heavy rubber weights that can be put on the top of the weight stacks, they are 2 1/2lbs. and 5 lbs., and help alot for adding just a little more weight.
Take good care of your machine and it can look good and function well for a lifetime to make you look good.
